Hi there, my name is Rebecca Hummel Olds. Welcome to my photography portfolio.
I graduated with my Journalism degree from Utah State University in the Spring of 2023. I never could've imagined how my love for photography and writing could complement each other so well within my career. I started getting into photography as a sophomore in high school and have loved writing and reading since a very young age. For a while, I took a step back from photography and solely focused on journalism — I'm in the process of updating my work that I've done over the last 5 years, so bear with me. During that time, I mostly took pictures for my family and close friends when they asked. But it's something that I always come back to. I grew up with an amazing mother who loves to take pictures of everything — she is always capturing sunsets, clouds, landscapes, my family's "I-don't-want-my-picture-taken" faces. My dad is a retired engineer whose hobbies include photography and building authentic working historic cannons that we fire for kicks and giggles. When he bought his first SLR camera I was captivated and I always wanted to use it. My dad bought me my first camera for Christmas and I've been hooked ever since. Photography is always something I come back, just like writing. To me, photography is about capturing a moment. It's about realizing all this world has to offer to us: if only we look. Photography doesn't have limits, its as elaborate or as simple as you want it to be. Each picture is unique and beautiful in it's own way. Photography have evolved from just an outlet for me to express myself but a way in which I can capture emotion, action and ideas. |
